If, after maternity leave, you cannot get childcare space in daycare and therefore experience financial issues and cannot go to work, then you can turn to the Department of Social Services to determine if you can receive temporary support. The Department of Social Services requires documentation from the Municipality proving that providing you with childcare space during the required time is impossible. You can apply for documentation for insufficient childcare here.

This self-service is for an unmarried mother of a newborn child, to provide information about who the father of the child is.

To ensure the child’s right to know their origin, the child’s rights towards the father, as well as the father’s obligations and rights towards the child, it must be confirmed and registered who the father of the child is.

If the child’s parents are unmarried, the mother will be asked to provide information about who the father of the child is. The notified father will then be asked to confirm paternity of the child.

Parents of children born on or after January 1, 2023, automatically receive joint custody if they have had a shared residence continuously for the last 10 months before the child was born, according to Landsfólkayvirlitið (the National Register).

If parents have not lived together for more than 10 consecutive months before the birth, the mother has sole custody over the child. However, all parents can agree on joint custody through the Family Law Administration. If you wish to make an agreement about joint custody, you can fill out, sign and send the Notification of Agreement on Joint Custody to the Family Law Administration.

If the child’s parents are married, the mother’s spouse is registered as the father of the child and the parents have joint custody. In such cases, the parents do not need to take any action because both parents will be registered in the National Register at the child’s birth.

NB! The Family Law Administration will need birth- and name-/baptism certificates of both the mother and father of the child. These documents can be attached in the self-service.

Barnaverndarstova Føroya umsitur Fosturforeldraskipanina, sum er fevnd av lógini um barnavernd. Tá eitt barn verður sett heiman, skal Fosturforeldraskipanin vísa á eina góðkenda fosturfamilju. Skipanin kann eisini vísa á umlættingarfamilju til barn, sum hevur fingið hetta játtað frá einari barnaverndartænastu.

Tað eru tvey sløg av fosturfamiljum: 
•    Fosturforeldur, har einki samband ella tilknýti er millum fosturbarn og fosturfamilju áðrenn.
•    Fosturforeldur - netverks/næstringa, sum er fyriskipan, har tað annaðhvørt eru familjubond millum barn og fosturforeldur, ella har fosturforeldrini eru úr netverkinum hjá barninum. 

Sama um søkt verður um at gerast fosturforeldur ella at gerast umlættingarforeldur, er neyðugt at útfylla umsókn.
